Richard Elwood
Director and Principal

On July 1, 1979, Rick helped found the accounting firm of Elwood & Espina, Incorporated, which over the next 28 years became one of the premier accounting firms in San Mateo County. On January 1, 2007, Elwood & Espina, Incorporated merged with Shea Labagh Dobberstein.

After receiving his Master’s Degree, Mr. Elwood joined one of the then “Big 8” accounting firms, in Chicago. In 1962, he was chosen to organize, establish and assume in-charge responsibilities for their new office in Tokyo, Japan. He also wrote their publication, “Tax and Trade Guide - Japan”. In 1965, he transferred to their San Francisco Office, where he subsequently became partner-in-charge of the “Small Business” practice, which provided services to closely held businesses and their owners.

He served on the Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards Committee of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. He also served for many years on the Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards Committee of the San Francisco Chapter of the California Society of CPA’s and was at one time chairman of that committee, and was also a member of the same committee of the Peninsula Chapter of the California Society of CPAs.

He also has been active in working with the California Certified Public Accountants Foundation. He served as chairman of the Committee on Accounting for Law Firms and as co-chairman on the committee for Accounting for Professional Service Firms.

In addition, Mr. Elwood has been a director of a bank and has served on the loan and audit committee of that bank. He is also on the board of directors of a multi-location chemical company.

Richard Elwood is a CPA in California and other states and is certified as a foreign CPA in Japan. He is a member of the AICPA and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Elwood received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana University. Mr. Elwood has been involved extensively in civic and other outside activities and have received many highest honors.
